Jesus, the very thought of Thee

1. Jesus, the very thought of Thee
With sweetness fills my breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
And in Thy presence rest.

2. Nor voice can sing, nor heart can frame,
Nor can the memory find
A sweeter sound than Thy blest Name,
O Saviour of mankind!

3. Oh, hope of every contrite heart,
Oh, joy of all the meek;
To those who fall, how kinds
Thou art,
How good to those who seek!

4.But what to those who find? Ah! this
Nor tongue nor pen can show;
The love of Jesus, what it is
None but His loved ones know.

5. Jesus, our only joy be Thou,
As Thou our prize wilt be;
Jesus, be Thou our glory now,
And through eternity.

Jesus, the Name high over all,

1.Jesus, the Name high over all,
In hell, or earth, or sky:
Angels and men before it fall,
And devils fear and fly.

2. Jesus, the Name to sinners dear.
The Name to sinners given;
It scatters all their guilty fear,
It turns their hell to heaven.

3. Jesus, the prisoner’s fetters breaks,
And bruises Satan’s head;
Power into strengthless souls it speak,
And life into the dead.

4.Oh, that the world might taste and see
The riches of His grace!
The arms of love that compass me
Would all mankind embrace.

5. His only righteousness I show,
His saving truth proclaim:
“Tis all my business here below
To cry, “Behold the Lamb!”

6. Happy, if with my last breath
I may but gasp His Name:
Preach Him to all, and cry in death;
Behold behold the Lamb!”
